The 6th Most Beautiful Bays of the World Congress in Vietnam
5 May 2010
‘'We have chosen Halong Bay for our 6th World Congress because this Vietnamese bay is a founder member of the Most Beautiful Bays of the World Network,'' said the President, Jérôme Bignon in his opening remarks.
Sixteen bays took part in this congress under the theme: Environment through Education.
‘'The fragile relationship between the earth and the sea is our motivation, said Jérôme Bignon. Two non-homogenous entities for which it is essential that all actors must look in the same direction. Protection and development must work together. I know that it is difficult, he added, but they have to move forward hand in hand.''
In the year of biodiversity, The Most Beautiful Bays of the World have decided to organize a World Bay Day on June 8th, 2010. The purpose is to bring to the forefront and give credit to local players (enterprises, associations) involved in the protection of the environment. Various contests (drawings, paintings, photos) destined to youth are also considered. Afterwards, they will be exhibited at Yeosu 2012 Exhibition in South Korea.
What is the strategy to finance a great idea? This is a question which the World Bays intend to response. Christophe Nevers presented a plan to find global and local financiers.
The Exchange Center (blogs) launched in 2007, which purpose is to help the bays share their daily issues (initiatives, projects) will be strengthen once all bays participate. Wiki-Bays, the web encyclopaedia of the Most Beautiful Bays of the World (scientific information and technical aspects of the bays) must also be completed in order to have all bays on the web.
The Congress has admitted in the network two new bays: Patmos in Greece and Sihanoukville in Cambodia. As for Mackenzie Bay in Northwest Canada, more research is need before a final decision is made on its admission. Furthermore, Jacmel Bay in Haiti is being considered for a future admission.
