SINE SALOUM

At 150 km South of Dakar, Sine Saloum Bay is located in South West Region of Fatik. This large fluvial-maritime natural reserve (730 km2) consists of  three key areas: continental, transition area between mangroves and salted lands, and alternating landscape, clear forests, scrub savannah and farming area;  insular, divided up territories by firths edged with mangroves; maritime, ecosystem conductive to species reproduction  harvested by fisheries, but also habitats for marine mammals (whales, manatees,...), molluscs and shellfishes, turtles. However, this important economical potential is challenged by different problems: tree cutting and bush fires; drought and water salinification; protected marine species poaching; coastal erosion.
