In Kisebükü Bay near Bodrum, one of the most remarkable destinations for “blue voyages,” a luxurious tourist facility with 450 beds is reportedly in the works. However, an extraordinary protest was staged against the plan during earlier this month.

‘’We have chosen Halong Bay for our 6th World Congress because this Vietnamese bay is a founder member of the Most Beautiful Bays of the World Network,’’ said the President, Jérôme Bignon in his opening remarks.

Festival of Samana

Two new Bays join the “World’s Most Beautiful Bays” organization: The Samana and Rincon Bay in the Dominican Republic and the Yeosu Bay in South Korea.

The Samana and Rincon bays were accepted into the Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club, making them the first in the Caribbean region to obtain this recognition after the Bay of Saintes (Guadeloupe).

The Executive Board that met in the palace of La Magdalena in Santander, Friday, November 6, 2009 formalized the admission of the bay of Yeosu (South Korea) and the bays of Rincon and Samana (Dominican Republic).

Narrated by Robert Redford and shot in HDTV, Saving the Bay is a lively and timely public television series about one of America’s greatest natural resources — San Francisco Bay — and how a community rallied to save this once endangered body of water.

From 4 to 11 June 2009, the Club’s general manager visited Nha Trang (Vietnam) to take part in the Sea festival events on behalf of the Club. It was also an opportunity to see the quality of float made by the Nha Trang Bay Club for the occasion. The message on it clearly emphasised the need to preserve our ecosystems and was seen by more than 100.000 spectators on the live television show.

The members of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club met up in Setùbal from 15 to 17 May 2009, for the opening of the 5th Club Congress, the theme of which was “United by Ocean”.

Becoming aware of the importance of the protection of the Nha Trang Bay’s environment (resource basin for the local population), on 1st June, the Nha Trang Bay Club organized the planting of mangroves over an area of 0.5 hectares in Dam Bay (village located on the Nha Trang Bay).

On Friday 30 January at precisely 2.30 pm, due to the difference in times, young children from Brittany and Quebec were able to discuss live the ecosystems of their respective bays. The credit for this fine international initiative can be given to the teachers and “Université de Bretagne Sud” (South Brittany University) based in Vannes.

A fine initiative, which intends to become closer to the “Friends” of the bay located on either side of the Couenon, the small but famous river historically separating Brittany from Normandy and which divides the bay in half, leaving the Mont to the Normans much to the regret of the Bretons!
