MONT ST-MICHEL BAY
50° N,1° W - Manche - Gulf Stream (chaud)
Mont St-Michel Bay is located near the French region of Normandy and Bretagne; its name comes from Mont-Saint-Michel classified World Heritage in 1979. This small granite island with 950 meters of circumference and 80 meters in height has attracted man since prehistory. Behind the ramparts, there is a village with the mount as a crown and the magnificent Benedictine Abbey’s buildings. The bay is a favoured site for farming mussels and flat and cupped oysters (Vivier-sur-Mer and Cancale). Ranked fourth in the world for its tides, the bay is yearly sand silting at a rate of 700,000 M3.
